Here's the reasons why Tea is the natonal drink in Egypt

The 'tea culture' is spread all over the world. There are tea parties, tea ceremonies, and afternoon tea in almost all regions of the world. The Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans have special way of cooking and drinking tea. However, none of the cultures can even come close to rivaling the Egyptians' love for tea.

In Egypt, tea is called 'Shai'. The Egyptians exclusively import their tea from Kenya and Sri Lanka, mainly because the tea from the tropics is better flavored. There are two categories of Shai in Egypt. They include; koshary and saiidi. Koshary is had in northern Egypt. It is prepared with fresh mint leaves and sweetened with cane sugar. Saiidi is more common in southern Egypt. It is usually drunk black and is sweetened with large volumes of cane sugar.

The Egyptians have since time immemorial had their tea mixed with medications. Apart from mint, there is ginger, hibiscus flowers, salep, cinnamon and traditional medicine that were mixed with the tea.
