When holidaymaking in the eastern part of England, you can stay at a coaching inn that has long weathered time yet has still exuded timeless elegance.

Wensum River, Norfolk

Located in East Anglia is the beautifully refurbished and revamped coaching inn of Bedingfeld Arms, wherein cozy fires, en suite guestrooms, comfy seating and good local food and drinks, such as wines, ales and ciders, await.

Only mere minutes away from the National Trusts’ Oxburgh Hall, Bedingfeld Arms won’t complete rid you of all technology amenities as aside from its well-appointed bar and a huge grass garden wherein you can relax under a parasol, you are given free access to its Wi-Fi connection as you sip your fresh-ground cup of coffee.

It’s (pies and Caesar salads) all delicious, the atmosphere friendly, the wine reasonably priced. And it’s a fabulous setting, as we discover next morning when bright sunlight picks out the honeyed details of Oxborough Parish Church outside our bedroom window… We like our brass bed and we like the two chairs on either side of the marble mantelpiece but we are disappointed there’s no bath, especially when the shower is one of those plastic jobs that heats the water as it purrs through the system… This is a good-value hostelry in a beautiful part of the country.
