Top Ten Things to Do in Peru

by Aldershot Travel Burlington - Peru -

Peru is absolutely magical. The country is home to one of the most beautiful and unique cultures of the world. We are excited to announce our own trip, Mysteries of Peru, a 13 day adventure through this incredible country.

Here are some more ideas for traveling to Peru!

1. Visit Peru’s Amazon Rainforest.

If you have a sense of adventure then visit the eastern slopes of the Andes and stay in a jungle lodge. Take a cruise down the mighty Amazon and interact with the local tribes.

2. Visit Colca Canyon.

The canyon itself is two times deeper than the Grand Canyon and offers great hiking and amazing views.

3. Climb the El Misti Volcano.

At over 19000 feet high, the volcano dominates the skyline. The climb is an experience of a life time.

4. Hit the beach.

To the north of Lima you will find some of the country's best beaches which are a perfect setting for swimming snorkeling and swimming. Trujillo in particular is a big surfing area with great waves.

5. Shop at the Pisac market.

The Andean town of Pisac is not more than a short car ride from Cusco, and its Sunday market is perhaps the best handcraft market in the country. Native peoples from all over come in their traditional, colorful clothing to sell their wares.

6. Trek the Inca trail.

Not for the feint of heart, but you can recreate the famous trek used by the Incans thousands of years ago. You are rewarded with stunning vistas of snow-capped mountains and encounters with Inca ruins. The end reward for your effort is the spectacular world wonder, Machu Picchu.

7. Explore the national parks.

They contain wonders of nature (and culture) and are highly recommended. Most will require a little extra travel time but they are well worth it.

8. Visit the Museums.

Most Peruvian cities and towns have great museums. From large state museums in various states to private museums.

9. Try some ceviche.

This delicious, fresh local dish is one of my favorites. You can get it all over the country, but on the coast is perfection. (Wish it down with an imfamous Pisco Sour!)

10. Visit the Ollantaytambo ruins.

This is the only Inca Settlement that has been continually inhabited since its inception and is bustling with Peruvian culture.
